Civil Works Design Manager for Copenhagen’s Future M5 Metro Line

Do you have a background in civil or structural engineering and experience in interdisciplinary coordination? Are you passionate about sustainability and innovation in large infrastructure projects? If so, you could be the new Civil Works Design Manager we are looking for to help shape the future of public transport in the capital region.

As a Design Manager for Civil Works, you will be part of the Engineering Unit, responsible for the design development, design review and coordination of our metro and light rail projects. You will take a leading role in the development of the design for the new M5 metro line by ensuring  effective collaboration among the different disciplines in the unit as well as in the interface with the other units in Metroselskabet’s matrix organization. 

The design of the M5 metro is in full swing, with ambitious sustainability targets for implementation throughout the next phases. Your role will entail coordinating the design of the civil works (including architecture, structural, geotechnical, mechanical and electrical works, surface areas), with the project team and consultants, to ensure the reference design sets the right requirements, complies with codes and standards and incorporates innovative ideas and “Safety in Design”. 

Field of Responsibility

• Coordinate the reference design and contract requirements across the different disciplines of the civil works group
• Ensure coherence in the overall tender structure
• Coordinate design interfaces with the Transportation Systems team
• Ensure implementation of lessons learnt from previous projects
• Overall responsible for adequacy and consistency of technical requirements
• Identification and facilitation of needed agreements with interfacing projects
• Manage and mitigate risks associated with technical aspects of the procurement process

About you

• You’re structured, pragmatic, and solution-oriented.
• You are cooperative and a good communicator
• You can find the correct balance between the best technical/theoretical design solutions and the practical on site applicability, with focus on the project’s contractual requirements
• You have a focus on safety and you are fascinated by innovation and sustainability in design, construction and operation.
• You are proactive and willing to contribute to implementing digital solutions across the company’s projects relevant to your field of responsibility.

 Skills and experience

• Bachelor of Civil/Structural Engineering with 8+ years’ experience at senior level
• Experience working with metro/railway infrastructure, ideally large scale underground projects
• Knowledge of European and Danish standards and regulations
• Experience with the interdisciplinary design management
• Familiarity with working in a digital/BIM environment is an advantage.
